First of all, I determine the level of my students' listening/reading comprehension and oral and written production: I do this through conversation, reading of articles/short extracts from books and getting them to write a brief review of something they enjoyed (a movie, a TV series, a comic book, a novel, a videogame, etc.). I learn about their background in the study of the English Language, and their expectations in attending my lessons or course.
Subsequently, I carefully craft my lessons around my students' needs (e.g. improving fluency for job interviews; improving pronunciation, etc.) and personal interests.
If my student or the school I'm working for uses a textbook, I will follow it, though I will always adapt its content to my students' level and needs.
I am a native English speaker, and I am a qualified EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teacher with a CELTA. I have been giving English lessons on a regular basis for 10 years.
I teach learners across different age groups, ranging from kindergarteners to young professionals.
My lessons are tailored to the individual needs of my students, who may need to focus on their vocabulary, accent, reading and writing skills, or attain more fluency in conversation.
I work both as a private one-to-one tutor, and as a freelance collaborator, organising tutorials and courses for groups of 4 to 20 attendees for schools and private institutions.
My tariffs may vary according to students' needs (e.g. tutoring for the IELTS test; teaching professionals how to conduct an effective job interview).
If home tutoring is required, travel expenses will be calculated according to distance and available transport to the destination.
Cancellation policy: cancellation needs to be communicated at least 24 hours before the scheduled lesson.
As a observing colleague in Oxford, I had the opportunity to closely watch Valentina at work. Valentina has a great empathy towards students, which translates as tailored lessons for her classes. She has good class management and, as a bilingual teacher, deeply understands the difficulties a non-native speaker may encounter. Her energetic and strong-willed personalities can boost students' self-confidence and she will definitely be able to give them the right motivation during their studies.
I have had the opportunity to observe Valentina teaching. She combines both the natural fluency of a native English speaker with an excellent knowledge of English grammar, which she explains very clearly. She helped me understand various grammatical questions with which I was struggling. Valentina is a fun and engaging person, who quickly builds rapport with people from all backgrounds and age groups. I have no reservations about recommending her as a teacher.
