About Guanmiao
Are you looking to learn Chinese without the "textbook boredom"? You’ve found the right spot!
I’m a 20-year-old university student currently living and studying right here in England. Because I navigate both English and Chinese academic worlds every day, I know exactly where the "translation gaps" are. I don't just teach you words, I'm gonna help you bridge the two cultures.
-Why learn with me?-
A Native Perspective: I grew up in the beautiful coastal city of Xiamen, China, so you’ll be learning authentic, natural Mandarin (with a very clear accent!).
Experienced & Relatable: Don't let my age fool you, I’ve been teaching Chinese since my high school days! Whether it was helping classmates offline or tutoring students globally online, I’ve spent years figuring out how to make tricky concepts simple.
Student-to-Student Energy: I know what it’s like to balance a busy schedule. My lessons are high-energy, relaxed, and feel more like a coffee-shop chat than a rigid lecture.
-The Logistics-
Lesson Length: Usually 35 minutes, but I’m flexible! We can do 20-minute "power sessions" or 50-minute "deep dives."
Level: I love working with Beginners and Intermediate learners (Ages 7+)!

-How we will learn together-
I’m not a fan of boring textbooks and endless repetition. Instead, I use a dynamic, conversational approach:
Real-Talk Practice: We’ll focus on the Chinese people actually speak. Want to learn how to order food, gossip with friends, or ace a job interview? That’s what we’ll do.
Visual Magic: We’ll use stories and pictures to remember characters (Hanzi) so they stop looking like "sticks" and start looking like meanings.
Confidence First: My classroom is a "mistake-friendly" zone. The more mistakes you make, the faster you learn. I’ll be there to catch you with a smile and a helpful correction.
-What a lesson looks like-
Most of my students find that 35 minutes is the "sweet spot", long enough to dive deep, but short enough to stay energised.
We start with a quick catch-up (in Chinese as you progress!).
We tackle one new "Big Idea" (like a grammar point or a set of useful words).
We spend the rest of the time playing games, looking at real-world videos, or just chatting to make sure you can use what you learned immediately.
-Something about me-
I’ve been obsessed with the Chinese language for 3 years! I’ve helped dozens of students go from "I don't know a word" to "I just had a full conversation!" I’ve been through the ups and downs of language learning myself, so I know exactly where the tricky parts are and how to get you over them.
