About Sophia
A native English speaker from a multilingual background, I have many years of experience learning and teaching myself languages. As a result I can strongly empathise with your experience as a language learner. My academic background means I am attuned to detail and the subtleties of meaning and grammar.
I am trained to teach adults of all levels and nationalities.
I have experience teaching Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate and Upper Intermediate learners from language backgrounds ranging from Spanish to Turkish to Korean and more.
I can help with vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and fluency, reading, writing, listening and speaking.

My lessons are one-on-one, face-to-face and customised to your needs and context.
Lessons can be at your home, my home or in a public location such as the British Library or a café; wherever you feel most comfortable.
In the first free lesson, we will get to know each other, clarify what you want from the lessons and establish your level. You may want to complete a short test so I can analyse your needs. From this I will prepare a customised plan just for you.
My teaching method is conversational, communicative and focused on English as it is really used. As a musical performer and composer I have a creative approach; variation and resourcefulness are important aspects of my teaching.
We can use a course book, but I will also adapt the content to suit you, using various resources. I like to use authentic materials, such as newspaper articles, leaflets, videos and content from the internet, to explore English as you will hear it outside the lesson.
