About Amber-Mae
I was born in South Africa and moved to Singapore when I was seven, where I grew up in a very international environment. At high school, I completed the International Baccalaureate diploma and really thrived in language and theater subjects, which sparked my long-standing love for communication, storytelling, and expression. Alongside my studies, I volunteered with organizations such as Riding for the Disabled and Riders Lodge Malaysia. Working closely with both people and animals helped me develop strong empathy, patience, and awareness of non-verbal communication — skills that are incredibly useful when supporting others as they learn and gain confidence. I later moved to Ireland to study Theatre, New Media, and Cultural Studies. This experience deepened my love for language, culture, and creative expression. I worked at a campus radio station and often helped friends in the arts with set design, organization, and behind-the-scenes support. Being surrounded by creative people taught me how to communicate ideas clearly and make learning feel natural and engaging. During my bachelor's degree, I also worked in roles such as Head Receptionist, Assistant Event Coordinator, and Cultural Event Support. These positions strengthened my people skills and taught me how to communicate confidently with individuals from many different cultural and language backgrounds. After graduating, I moved to Amsterdam to complete a master's degree in European Studies, with a focus on identity and integration. Even here, I naturally connected my work back to arts and culture. Overall, my background allows me to approach teaching English in a friendly, supportive, and culturally aware way — helping students feel comfortable, confident, and motivated to use English in everyday life.

I work with a student-centered, conversation-led approach that prioritises confidence, clarity, and real-world communication. My teaching methods combine guided conversation, media-based learning, and practical language exercises drawn from everyday situations. I use films, TV series, articles, and music to introduce vocabulary, idioms, and cultural context in an engaging and memorable way. A typical lesson begins with relaxed conversation to warm up and identify focus areas. This is followed by a short media clip, text, or theme, that can be chosen by the student, which we explore through discussion and vocabulary building. Lessons usually end with reflective feedback and practical tips students can apply immediately in daily life. My specific strengths lie in communication, storytelling, and critical thinking, supported by my academic background in Theatre, New Media and Cultural Studies and European Studies. This allows me to help students not only improve grammar and pronunciation, but also express ideas more naturally, persuasively, and confidently. My lessons are intended for kids and teenagers at intermediate levels, including students looking for a little extra practice, professionals improving workplace communication, and casual learners looking to feel more fluent in social settings. Lessons are always tailored to individual goals, learning styles, and circumstances.

Perfect! My son has had several lessons with Amber and he enjoys them. Amber takes her tome to explain and understand him. I recommend her to anyone who is looking for real-life, conversational English practice.
