About MIWA
Hello! My name is Miwa.
I’m from Sado Island, a small and beautiful island in the Sea of Japan. My family has been rice farmers there for over 200 years. In my hometown, people still live a traditional lifestyle—growing rice and vegetables, supporting each other, and celebrating local festivals at the shrine every year to pray for a good harvest.
Now I live in Auckland, New Zealand. Living in a country with very different cultures and values made me realize how special my own traditions are. That’s why I would love to share not only the Japanese language, but also everyday life, culture, and values from Japan with my students.
My lessons are relaxed and friendly. Don’t worry about mistakes—we learn together step by step. I hope we can enjoy fun conversations, practice natural Japanese, and discover more about Japan together!

Each lesson is customized to suit your needs. I’m patient and relaxed, so please don’t worry about making mistakes—it’s all part of the learning process! Perfect! Miwa is an excellent Japanese language tutor who stands out for her friendliness, punctuality and effective teaching method. In my introductory lesson with her, I was impressed by her ability to seamlessly switch between Japanese and English, which made it easy for me to follow along and learn new words and phrases.
