About Julie
Hi, I’m Julie! I’m 23 and originally from Nanjing, a beautiful city with a rich and fascinating history.
I came to London two years ago to pursue my master’s degree in Law. During my time here, I’ve had the opportunity to learn more about English culture, and I’ve become genuinely fascinated by it.
At the same time, I’ve noticed that while many people in the West are curious about Asia, China and Chinese culture sometimes receive less attention than they deserve. I believe that’s a shame, because there is so much beauty, history and richness in Chinese culture that I’d love to share.
That’s why I’d like to be part of the Chinese language and culture community—not only by helping people learn Mandarin, but also by sharing a more personal and authentic perspective on China.
Through language, I hope to help people discover the beauty of Chinese culture and, in my own small way, build a bridge between China and the UK.

My Approach to Learning Mandarin
For beginners, we’ll start with Pinyin—one of the most important tools for learning Mandarin. I’ll help you build a strong foundation and get your pronunciation and tones right from the beginning.
Along the way, we’ll explore a little of the history and development of the Chinese language, so you can understand where the language comes from and how it has evolved.
Of course, we’ll also practise speaking from day one! I’ll ask you simple questions and encourage you to respond naturally, gradually building your confidence in real conversations.
From intermediate level, we can introduce reading and writing. We’ll learn to connect Pinyin with Chinese characters and practise writing together—if that’s something you’d like to focus on. If your goal is mainly to speak, we can absolutely focus on oral communication instead. Your lessons are shaped around your goals.
For advanced learners, we’ll take things further with reading, writing, Chinese culture, everyday expressions and different slangs. The aim is not just to speak correct Chinese, but to help you sound more natural and like a native speaker.
