About Gelson
Born in Lisbon and educated in London, where I lived and studied (GCSE & A-Levels) for 13 years, I teach languages by combining my multicultural experience with a practical and communicative approach. I speak English and Portuguese natively, and Spanish at a highly advanced level (C2), with a strong academic and cultural foundation.
I have several years of experience helping people of different ages and levels improve their fluency, pronunciation, and speaking confidence. My teaching style is modern, approachable, and flexible: I adapt to your needs, whether for travel, work, studies, or simply out of passion. All my classes are 100% online, with interactive materials and a personalised approach so you get the most out of every session, wherever you are.

My classes begin by thoroughly understanding the student's needs and goals, both personal and academic. During the first class, I also like to learn a little about the student's passions and interests outside of languages, as this allows me to tailor the topics and content to what motivates them most. Learning a language isn't just about memorising vocabulary or grammar rules, but about enjoying the process and connecting with the language in a way that is relevant to each individual.
In the first few lessons, I emphasise the psychological importance of learning a new language, especially when you don't live in the country where it's spoken. Understanding the emotional and social challenges involved in this process is fundamental to maintaining motivation and confidence. From the third class onward, we'll focus on grammar and speaking, adapting to the student's needs. Whether working on basic comprehension or more complex conversations, my goal is for each student to feel comfortable and able to communicate, even if they don't understand every detail of a conversation.
