About Lauren
I am a Norwegian-American soprano, professional singer, and private voice/piano teacher with both a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the UMKC Conservatory and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Memphis. My background as a performer has taken me across opera, recital, church music, and community music settings, and I bring that same depth of artistry, care, and professionalism into my teaching.
My path as a musician has always been rooted in connection, empathy, and healing. I believe music is not only about technique, but also about confidence, communication, and discovering one’s own voice. I have experience teaching students of many ages, levels, and learning styles, including beginners, advanced students, neurodiverse learners, and students with differing abilities.
In addition to my performance and teaching experience, I have meaningful experience using music in assisted living settings. I built and directed a choir for elderly residents and have worked one-on-one with individuals experiencing dementia and memory loss. These experiences have deeply shaped my teaching approach: I strive to create lessons that are patient, encouraging, adaptable, and centered on the whole person.
Students can expect a prepared, supportive, and professional teacher who takes their growth seriously. My goal is to create a safe lesson environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, building skills, and growing in confidence through music.

My approach as a tutor is warm, flexible, and individualized. I meet each student where they are and adjust the lesson in real time based on their needs, learning style, energy level, and goals. I especially value working with neurodiverse students and students with differing abilities, creating a patient and supportive space where they can learn with confidence.
In voice lessons, I focus on breath, alignment, healthy vocal production, diction, phrasing, musicality, and confidence. In piano lessons, I work on note reading, rhythm, hand position, basic theory, scales, and expressive playing. A typical lesson includes a brief check-in, warmups or technical exercises, repertoire work, and clear practice goals for the week.
What sets me apart is my combination of professional vocal training, teaching experience, and genuine care for each student. I hold both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Vocal Performance and have taught a wide range of ages and levels. I also have meaningful experience using music in assisted living settings, where I built and directed a choir for elderly residents and saw firsthand how music can encourage memory, connection, and joy.
My lessons are for beginners through advanced students, including children, teens, adult beginners, hobbyists, auditioning singers, and students working on school, theater, classical, pop, or musical theater repertoire. I especially enjoy working with students who want a thoughtful, encouraging teacher who will meet them where they are while helping them grow.
