I tutored Maria, Jana's mother, for just a few weeks while she visited her family living in Brisbane. Maria was a delightful student and it was lovely to learn more about her life and home city in Germany while we worked on ways to give her focus areas on which to concentrate more English practice/conversation ability as she acclimatised to the new language all around her. It's a daunting thing, but Maria's determination to learn and improve, even for just a short visit, will help her quest to continue working on her English fluency from home. I expect her next visit to Australia will be very enjoyable, with plenty of interesting conversations. All the very best!

Ray is a highly motivated intelligent student who is a pleasure to tutor. His knowledge of English is at an advanced level and he’s an enthusiastic conversationalist in our tutorials, keen to improve his grasp of Aussie English by participating in chats about a wide range of topics and through listening practice with the authentic dialogues we have found online. He recognises that analysis of each word and sentence structure isn’t helpful in spoken communication, and is trying instead to focus on making sense of the words he can recognise, and context, in order to keep up with what’s being said. Australian English is not easy for people new to it, but Ray has embraced the challenge with a great deal of curiosity and bravery, choosing some interesting and diverse online resources by which to listen to Australians with very strong accents and broad-ranging social backgrounds. This in turn leads to interesting conversations in the tutorials. I hope Ray will be able to employ his growing confidence in his Aussie language skills with more conversations in his local community. He has a lot of interesting things to say, and I’m sure there are many Australians out there who would enjoy a chat with him.
