About Elliot
I come from Brighton, UK - one of the most vibrant, artistic, and inclusive cities on the south coast of the UK, which really helped to shape me as a person in many ways!
I moved to London in 2013 to study at the Royal College of Music, and stayed there after graduating, and I currently live in Hampton, South-West London with my wife Silvia, and our cat Ada (who many of my pupils know all too well! She likes to sit in my lessons...)
I am non-binary, and use ‘they/them’ pronouns. Don't worry - I just use my first name “Elliot” in all teaching contexts with pupils, in school and privately!
At the age of 4, my class teacher discovered my innate sense of musicality when she realised that I had perfect pitch, after noticing me singing perfectly in tune during several class singing sessions. Shortly after this on her encouragement, I began learning the Violin, and never looked back, later attaining a fully bursaried place to attend Christ's Hospital school in Horsham from 2006-2013, before winning a scholarship to study Viola and Composition at the Royal College of Music from 2013-2017.
Nowadays outside of work, I like to compose, play a fair bit of D&D (and write music for my campaigns too!), and of course enjoy the odd video game or two where time permits. Not content with ‘mastering’ one type of bow, I’m also a keen archer (and long-term member of the Royal Richmond Archery Club) and practise my archery as much as my schedule allows.
Other hobbies currently include teaching myself lockpicking, journalling, and collecting fountain pens. These change on a regular basis so be sure to ask when we meet :)

Hi! My name is Elliot, and I'm a well-established local teacher in Hampton. I've been teaching in the borough since 2018, and have over 14 years' experience as a specialist teacher.
I trained in Viola Performance at the Royal College of Music back in 2013-2017, graduating and immediately specialising in delivering violin and viola lessons to an ever-growing roster of pupils.
I have a technical approach to working out issues, but focus primarily on mentoring pupils as musicians, helping them to realise their creative and artistic potential rather than focusing solely on "exam results". I believe strongly that we study music to enjoy ourselves, and wholly apply this ethos in every lesson I teach!
I use the Music Teachers' Board (MTB) for nearly all music exams, due to their flexibility and inclusivity, with free choice repertoire - plus the guarantee that your examiner is a specialist in your instrument (which ABRSM do not offer!!).
