My most recent post with Sports Leaders UK as a Regional Projects Officer for the West Midlands, involved overseeing of the Energy Club and PlayMaker projects in Primary schools, the training of teaching staff, teaching assistants, lunchtime supervisors, parents, sixth formers and local volunteers to run the programmes as well as the administration of both projects. The role also entailed setting up and administration of 39 Asda Active Sports Days, where secondary pupils undertaking Sports Leadership awards helped in the organisation and delivery of Primary intra and inter school sports days and festivals.
Previously I worked for five years at King Edwards VI Aston, (four years as an Assistant Partnership Development Manager for the King Edwards School Sport Partnership). I implemented a number of different projects, designed, organised, led and taught within various schools, schemes and festivals. Active Lifestyles was a Youth Sports Trust, Change for Life project where I trained leaders from 10 schools to work with pupils who were not fully engaged in physical activity in Early Years and or Key Stage 1. I organised an annual Multi Sports event for 27 schools, coordinating 60 volunteers 50 members of staff and on average 650 pupils. I ran a number of Multi Skills and Multi Sports Festivals as intra school competitions and then moved the winning teams onto the inter school area Finals. I implemented an Outdoor and Adventurous Activity Festival, Ultimate Frisbee and Disc Golf initiatives in a number of schools. I even performed in two Dance Festivals with my Special School pupils.
During this role I was School Sports Coordinator for two schools, Broadway School and Mayfield Special School and I monitored and helped Schools with inclusion across the Partnership. Mayfield pupils whenever possible were invited to Partnership wide events. I also tried to ensure that any pupils with special needs within the partnership were identified, given opportunities to develop their skill set and provided with pathways within and beyond School competitions. I worked on my own or alongside the Partnership Development Manager to oversee, lead, instruct and mentor the six School Sports Coordinators along with the twenty seven Primary Link Teachers. I fostered good working relationships and links with Head Teachers in my cluster and received personal invites to various school functions. I also worked with other SSCo’s, Competition Managers, PE staff, Coaches, National Governing Body representatives and a number of Volunteers to provide quality coaching and teaching, develop clubs, build community links and train Sports Leaders ranging from Primary children to adults.
As Pool Manager for one year I worked with the School Games Organiser to provide a swimming programme for local schools and Community groups on behalf of Birmingham City Council. My role included the hiring of coaches, organising their hours and pay, the timetabling of the pool, teaching of pupils, plant room, maintenance and cleaning. I helped design and format the pupil assessment criteria which has now been taken on by Pools 4 Schools. I also wrote and delivered a one day training course for accompanying school staff.
I have worked alongside NGBs and other organisations, the annual KESSP Kwik Cricket Festival and Tri Golf Tournament (which included the use of a 9 hole course which I helped to design and maintain) for example. I also provided volunteers for and assisted at Bizi Badminton Festivals and Sports Hall Athletics. I was also part of the original committee that set up the Premier League 4 Sport projects linked to Aston Villa FC.
I assisted with the data collection involved with the Governments PSA targets, PESSYP and PESSCL surveys. Following each end of year report I helped the PDM with report writing, evaluating and producing development plans. It meant that I checked, monitored and helped in setting targets for leadership and volunteering along with club links, pupil’s participation and extra- curricular provision across a wide range of schools, sports and physical activities.
Prior to the aforementioned posts I was a teacher in a number of State and Independent Schools for 22 years. The majority of my teaching was within Physical Education and Science departments though I have also taught Outdoor Pursuits, Sports Leadership, PSHCE, Creative Arts G.C.S.E, Mathematics, English, Life Skills, Careers and coordinated Work Experience.
In general I feel that I have good time management, can lead and delegate, be in charge or act as a team player, will often solve issues in a structured yet creative way and do so in a fair minded, approachable and friendly manner. This would be supported by and along with positive comments from colleagues, SSCos, staff from a number of schools, coaches, NGB representatives, clients and pupils.
