About Nick
I spent 10 years acting and travelling the world with The Royal Shakespeare Company and Propellor Theatre Company, therefore my knowledge of performing and speaking Shakespeare is considerable. Having written two bestselling books - my first about my time at The RSC, and my second asking why Shakespeare is still relevant today - I can provide expert and experienced tutoring on how to bring a book to fruition. Whilst trying to make my way as an actor, I spent my 20s playing piano in 5-star hotels in London and playing rock guitar in bands. I have played session piano with Sir Ray Davies, Hugh Laurie, alongside Jools Holland, and played guitar in a band that won the London New Music Awards in '99. These days, I do a lot of TV and Film and therefore have the time at home to tutor and passionately pass on the knowledge I've gained from thirty years knocking about as an artist. I believe it's better to have a tutor that is engaged with the professional world and knows how things work in certain environments.

All lessons will be tailored to the individual. I can give half-hour/hour lessons on your Shakespeare monologues for Drama School. They will revolve around the understanding of the verse, the technique of delivery - whether it be through Zoom or the metre involved in speaking the text. Writing lessons will be an hour ranging from the construction of a sentence or the balance of the whole book. Music lessons will be half an hour. I teach playing by ear but can also read the dots, so even if you're starting or want to take your playing to another level, I tend to throw away the paper and encourage listening - learning technique by playing along and imitating. That way you can find your voice.

I’ve only ever observed that when Nick commits himself to anything — he makes an above and beyond effort! I’ve admired his tenacity in multiple plays at the Royal Shakespeare Company as an actor and as an author with his written work. Anyone who has the fortune to have Nick as a tutor has hit the jackpot — and I mean that with no hyperbole.
My son is so incredibly lucky to have Nick as a tutor and mentor. You want to understand Shakespeare? Not only was he in the Royal Shakespeare Company he’s written books about it. You want to learn from a star of an acclaimed TV series? Look up Alma’s Not Normal. Cause Nick isn’t going to brag about it. But he’s a marvellous teacher.
I am delighted to recommend Nick, whom I have had the pleasure of knowing for over 15 years.
Nick is an exceptional English tutor, acting coach, and writer, whose dedication and expertise shine in everything he does. His academic knowledge and passion for teaching make him a highly effective tutor, while his creativity and insight as a coach and writer inspire those around him to excel.
Nick’s friendly and approachable nature fosters trust and confidence, making him a joy to work with. I am confident that Nick will bring tremendous value to any endeavour he pursues.I wholeheartedly recommend Nick as a tutor. He is a skilled teacher and makes every lesson fun. He also has a quintessentially English accent, so you will learn to speak beautifully!
