About Ben
Originally from London, I currently live and work in Madrid, where I teach English at a bilingual secondary school. I studied Spanish and French at GCSE and A-level, and hold a First Class degree in Spanish from the University of Leeds, which included two semesters studying at the Universidad de Alcalá in Madrid. In addition to over two years of experience helping my students in Spain to achieve their goals in English, I have also volunteered at primary and secondary schools in the UK, shadowing teachers in Spanish classrooms just like yours, and helping students of all abilities to prepare for their GCSE and A-level exams. In my free time, I enjoy reading, travelling, watching films and live music.

Hola, qué tal? Me llamo Ben, and I offer hour-long tutoring, revision and conversation sessions to students studying Spanish at KS3, GCSE and A-level. I combine my experience teaching languages with a dynamic, up-to-date knowledge of Spanish to help you succeed in your KS3, GCSE or A-level exams, placing a particular emphasis on supporting you in developing your speaking and listening skills. As well as my in-depth knowledge of the KS3, GCSE and A-level curricula (AQA, Edexcel, OCR), I also have a wide range of experience providing private tutoring to children, teenagers, and adults learning both Spanish and English. My approach is friendly, flexible and student-centred - I’m able to help with homework, support you in revising the topics you’ve covered in class, prepare you for speaking and/or writing exams, and, for A-level students, for whom spontaneity and improvisation is particularly important, simply practise chatting in Spanish. If you’re studying Spanish at A-level, I’m also able to draw on the work I undertook during my degree, and the breadth of experiences I’ve had throughout my 4 years living in Spain, in helping you prepare for exam questions on literature, culture and history - paper 2 for those studying the AQA or Edexcel syllabi. These topics are ones that require a little more background reading and research, and so tutoring can really make a difference in helping you to pick up as many marks as possible on these questions! I work online, offering classes via Zoom or Google Meet, and can offer flexibility with scheduling, working primarily on weekday evenings. ¡Espero verte pronto en mi aula!

Perfect! The first lesson exceeded all expectations. Ben asked in advance for my thoughts and aims and really listened. He structured the first lesson perfectly- it was varied and fun, stretched me while also building my confidence going over the more basic stuff. Ben is hoping to be a Spanish teacher in the UK eventually and I am predicting he will be very good at it.
