About Maia
Hi there! My name is Maia. I’m currently studying at Otago University, pursuing a double major in Data Science and Economics. I was lucky to grow up with parents who are both teachers — seeing how much they helped others (and me!) inspired me to start tutoring myself, which I’ve been doing since high school. I also had the amazing opportunity to study overseas in Singapore, where I completed the IB Diploma with Higher Level Maths and Economics. Growing up there, I understand the pressures of deadlines and high expectations, but I also learned how fun and rewarding it can be to really get into the subjects you love — and I’ve picked up plenty of tips and tricks to help you through stressful times.
I’ve always been passionate about maths and economics, and I love helping students build confidence and actually enjoy what they’re learning. Whether it’s tackling tricky problems or complex concepts, or just having a friendly chat, I can’t wait to get to know you and make our lessons both helpful and enjoyable!

I love working through economics concepts in open, relaxed conversations, encouraging questions, curiosity, and even debates to really understand different perspectives and key concepts. Lessons also include going through real-life scenarios and past paper questions to make ideas practical and help build confidence. I adapt each session to the student’s style and focus on strong foundations, good study habits, and making learning enjoyable.
