About Charly

I am married with one son in 6th form and one daughter in year 9. We have two puppies: Fable, a chocolate brown cocker spaniel, and Willow, an Old English Sheep Dog. If dogs aren’t your favourite, don’t worry, they go to their special room during our lessons.

I am also from America! I moved to the U.K. in 2018 to do a master's degree and fell in love and never left. My husband's parents live in London, so we see them sometimes, but not nearly enough. I miss my family in America, but I also really like living in Oxford.

I study Medieval manuscripts at the University because I’m always curious about discovering something that no one else ever has before. I hope that when I graduate that I’ll be able to get a job in a library or museum.

About the lesson

I used to be a teacher, and I specialised in literacy! I have a Literacy Specialist Certification, which allows me to assist readers and writers of all ages. I currently work with children as young as 2 throughout primary school age. A child is never too young to learn to read and never too old to keep improving. I meet each of my students where they are at: my youngest students (ages 2-3) begin with Phonics and Sight Words, around age 5 students are introduced to grammar, while my older students practice reading comprehension skills, research stills, and learn to communicate their ideas through writing persuasive essays and even public speaking.

I am also special education trained, so if your child has a specific learning difference or needs special accommodations within their learning environment to succeed, I am willing to assist in any way possible so that they can live their best life.

Though I am not a speech or language pathologist, I have found that my approach has a significant impact on correcting language anomalies.

How it works:
Our home. The majority of my work takes place in my own home office where I have access to all of my books and tools. The parents will have a dedicated lounge close by until the lesson completes. Each week, students will be given work to practise at home. Sometimes it may be recommended that the student has lessons more than once a week if possible depending on their retention of their previous lessons.
