About Lucy
I graduated in Modern Foreign Languages and Literature (Primarily English) from the Oriental University of Naples in 1997. I then qualified with distinction in teaching English as a Foreign Language from St Giles International, London, in 1998. I taught at the British Council accredited Milner School of English Wimbledon from 1999-2020. I gained a broad experience teaching beginner-advanced; KET, PET, FCE, CAE and IELTS. Groups of up to 18 as well as one-to-one; Speaking, vocabulary, grammar and writing skills; as well as a special interest in pronunciation.
I have experience of teaching students from every continent; this means I am familiar with, and can anticipate, the strengths and weaknesses of individual nationalities.
In their feedback, what my students appreciate most, is my Oxford English accent, and learning from a standard English model. Learners are mentored and given resources to improve independently at home. Plenty of support provided - both online and paper-based.
I describe myself (as do those who know me personally and professionally) as approachable; dynamic; effective; a good mentor; a good listener; guaranteed to make conversations engaging and enjoyable on any topic.
I am passionate about teaching English and see it as a vocation rather than a job. I love getting to really know my students both professionally and personally; I am fluent in Italian, which gives me experience with learners of Latin-based languages, as I lived in Italy for 10 years.
