About Kate
I have recently returned to the UK after spending 6 years in Japan and Taiwan, where I was working as an interpreter, retreat leader, and English teacher.
Japanese is my native language (along with English), and I studied Mandarin at Oxford university. I love both languages and the cultures they represent, and hope to share this love with others.

I have a clear communication style and personalise my lessons to accommodate the student's specific needs.
I prefer to focus on practical usage of the language, rather than rote memorisation. Pronunciation is vital to master for communication in Mandarin, particularly with the tones. I have been through the process of mastering these myself, and can help others who wish to be able to communicate fluently.
I also focus more on useful conversational phrases, and ways of recognising and memorising the characters by explaining their origins and components. It is a fascinating and fun language to learn!
