About Paul
Looking for an A Level Politics tutor who knows the spec inside out, understands teenagers, and genuinely enjoys the business of ideas and arguments?
I’m an Oxford PPE graduate, experienced teacher, and active examiner specialising in A Level Politics (Edexcel) and GCSE History. I teach in the independent sector and have worked with students across the full range of abilities — from those aiming for A*s to those who need steady, confidence-building support. As both a teacher and a parent, I know that no two young people learn in quite the same way. Every lesson is tailored: calm when it needs to be, challenging when it should be, always focused on clear, measurable progress.
Alongside academic tuition, I also offer specialist interview coaching for competitive applications in Law, Politics, Philosophy, Economics and History. This includes developing argumentation skills, practising unseen questions, building intellectual confidence, and helping students think aloud with clarity — all essential for Oxbridge, Russell Group, and selective school admissions.
I advise on UCAS applications and EPQs, so I understand the wider academic landscape and how to help students position themselves strongly for the next step.
If you’d like a flavour of my approach, my YouTube channel offers short, structured walkthroughs of the Edexcel Politics course:
(concealed information)
Expect clear explanations, exam-savvy insights, plenty of real-world examples, and the occasional dry aside to keep the pace up.
Whether the goal is top grades, interview success, greater confidence, or simply making sense of a fast-changing political world, I aim to make the subject feel accessible, rigorous, and — whisper it — enjoyable. No jargon. No fuss. Just good teaching, well delivered.

Politics tutoring that builds confidence, sharpens thinking, and gets results.
With over 22 years of teaching and tutoring experience, I offer hour-long lessons that do far more than march through the spec. My sessions are conversational, structured, and intellectually stretching — designed to help students think clearly, write convincingly, and understand the political world rather than simply memorise it.
Most of my work is with 16–18-year-olds, and A Level Politics is very much my home territory. I also teach GCSE and A Level History , so I understand the demands across both levels. As a qualified Edexcel A Level Politics examiner, I know exactly what the mark scheme rewards — and how to help students secure those marks with confidence.
Every lesson is tailored to the student. Expect:
*Clear explanation of difficult content
*Practical, exam-focused strategies
*Short debates and guided discussions to strengthen analytical thinking
*Support in producing revision notes that actually work
*A patient, encouraging environment where no question is too small
I’ll go over anything as many times as needed — the aim is always clarity, confidence, and steady progress.
I’m flexible with timings, so just get in touch and we’ll find a slot that works.

Paul spent quite a few sessions tutoring my son for his Politics A Level. He really helped him to gain a better understanding of the subject and he went into the exams significantly more confident as a result. We don’t have the results as yes but judging from my son’s reaction following the exams he was confident he had done well. Many thanks Paul.
