About Spencer
I first started teaching economics while I was in Sixth Form, helping other students after school during a difficult teacher transition when our class had fallen behind. I went on to achieve an A* in A Level Economics, alongside A*s in Maths, Politics and History, as well as full marks in an EPQ on a topic combining politics and economics.
I then went on to study economics as part of Oxford’s Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) degree, where I had the time of my life! I absolutely love learning, teaching and talking about economics. Economics is a subject that lends itself to some fascinating discussions, and I hope we will have plenty of them together.
I have also worked with many successful applicants to Oxford and Cambridge for economics courses, including mature students and reapplicants. These include:
Oxford PPE: 5 offers
Oxford Economics and Management: 2 offers
Cambridge Economics: 6 offers
Although I eventually made it to Oxford, I also know what it is like to struggle at school. I did not really connect with education until Sixth Form and needed additional support with my dyslexia. I also had to reapply to Oxford after narrowly missing out on a place on my first attempt.
Because of that, I understand that academic progress is rarely straightforward. Whether you are aiming for an A*, trying to move up a grade, or simply finding economics difficult at the moment, I hope I can meet you wherever you are in your academic journey and help you move forward with confidence.
I hold an Enhanced DBS certificate and am a member of The Tutors' Association.

Our tutorials will be planned around your individual needs, building from whatever level you are currently working at and moving at a pace that suits you.
In our work together, I will focus on three things:
1. Building your knowledge and understanding of economics. We will work together on an online whiteboard, where I will break down diagrams, maths and difficult concepts in an interactive way. By the end, you should be able to explain the ideas back to me confidently in your own words.
2. Teaching you how to actually earn marks on your exam board. We will work through your specification, past-paper questions and mark schemes so that you understand what examiners are looking for. We will then use that knowledge to practise planning essays and tackling unseen questions effectively.
3. Showing you how to revise economics properly. Effective learning is active, not passive. I will show you practical revision methods that help you remember content, apply it under exam conditions and work towards the highest grades.
At the end of each lesson, you will receive a lesson pack containing the work we completed together, giving you a useful resource to revisit afterwards and use in your revision.

Spencer was both an inspiration and a fantastic tutor. He broke down the A Level Maths content in a way that made it accessible and intuitive, covering the material in just four months. From having never studied A Level Maths, Spencer was instrumental in helping me achieve the conditions of my Oxford offer.
