About Athar
I love teaching. There are few things more satisfying than helping people to understand subjects and build their minds - and, in the process, to discover themselves.
I used to work as a psychiatrist and as a medical-journal editor, which has given me wide experience of the human condition - and an understanding of where science comes from.
My work as an anthropologist has helped me to bridge cultures, and see things from different perspectives.

I work as a tutor in Human Sciences at Oxford University, but also have many years' experience of tutoring at GCSE and A-Level.
The key to Maths is practice - and we do plenty of practice questions. But I also teach through dialogue and worked examples, helping students to really understand, and therefore to enjoy, the material.
I try to build skills and understanding - we want people to become independent thinkers, not machines!
Typically, lessons last for 1 hour, although longer or shorter lessons can be given if this suits the student's needs.
