About Sam

Hey there, I'm Sam, a paramedic with a unique perspective on education. Living with ADHD has taught me the value of tailored learning and embracing individual strengths. It's why I'm so passionate about student-led teaching. I believe in creating a supportive environment where each student's voice is heard, respected, and valued. My journey from the frontlines of healthcare to the classroom is driven by a deep-seated desire to empower others. Teaching isn't just about sharing knowledge; it's about fostering growth, resilience, and confidence.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I've been hooked on healthcare and emergency services since I was a kid playing with toy ambulances. Private tutoring came naturally after I saw the impact I could make teaching fellow paramedics and nurses within the military and mentoring students.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach everything from basic life support to advanced trauma care. My favorite topics include innovative techniques in pre-hospital care and real-life case studies. I'm not a huge fan of dry textbook stuff, but hey, it's all part of the job.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Absolutely, my original medical instructor when training was my biggest motivation. I had the chance of meeting them again 5 years later and I'm glad I was able to continue to be inspired by them to this day!
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience, adaptability, and a genuine passion for helping others learn. Oh, and a sprinkle of creativity doesn't hurt either!
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Once during training, I accidentally dropped my stethoscope down a patient's toilet… Let's just say, I learned the importance of keeping gear secure and a new stethoscope had to be bought!
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Keeping up with ever-evolving medical practices can be a challenge, but it's also what keeps things exciting. Plus, finding ways to engage students with ADHD and other learning disabilities like myself can be a bit of a puzzle sometimes.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Teaching is my passion, hands down. But within the subject, I'm particularly drawn to the human factors aspect of emergency care, looking at systems and process to make sure the patient is kept safe and clinicians are healthy
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

Besides my charming personality, I bring real-world experience from both the classroom and the military. Plus, I've got ADHD myself, so I know firsthand how to make learning accessible and engaging for everyone.
