About Ryan
I am what you would call a 'lifer'. Teaching is the only job I have done since I completed my studies at University. My first six years were spent teaching in the sunny Caribbean and the last twenty, here in England. It's fair to say that I am passionate about the profession and fulfilling the responsibilities that come with it. I offer tailored one-to-one or small group sessions that help students build strong reading, writing, and analytical skills, while developing their confidence and enjoyment of English. As a current AQA English Language examiner, I bring in-depth understanding of exam requirements and marking criteria, enabling students to approach assessments strategically and successfully.

On offer are tailored tutoring sessions based on individual learning styles and goals. To that end, the sessions’ pace will be totally dependent on the speed and ability of the learner. No assumptions will be made, and progress will be ascertained based on answers to verbal questions posed in the lesson. Additionally, written responses will be an integral part of the lessons. When the student is happy to move, we will do so. Key Stage 3 will see me focusing on reading comprehension, grammar and spelling. Attention will also be placed on transactional and creative writing in preparation for their GCSE exam. I am happy to cover what is currently being taught in the learners’ school so they can consolidate their knowledge or indeed be one step ahead. At the GCSE level, attention can be placed on both English Language and Literature preparation (AQA-focused). My sessions will provide expert guidance on how to approach exam questions, structure responses, and meet the mark scheme criteria — giving my students a real advantage in their GCSE exams. Marking and feedback using exam board standards will be consistently utilised, so students have a full understanding of what constitutes acceptable responses at each level.
