About Pat
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching all age ranges and abilities for over 30 years.
Past teaching posts include:
Goldsmiths College. (Here I prepared students for their Bmus recitals, held Masterclasses and prepred students for any flute teaching they might do.)
St. Pauls Girls School
Inner London Education Authority.
I have experience in coaching ensembles.and organising events.
For many years I have had Liz Goodwin come to do Flutewise events in Tonbridge.
I am Area Representative for The British Flute Society in Kent and in that capacity I organise flute days once a year.
In the last few years we have had Karen Jones, Ian Clarke (twice) , Mike Mower, Atarah be Tovim and just recently Gareth McLearnon and Abigail Burrows come to coach and play at our flute days. I wonder who we will invite next year!?
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes
- Where and with whom did you train?
At Trinity College of Music I studied with Harold Clarke flute, Lowry Sanders piccolo and Anthony Lindsay piano. Later I studied with William Bennett for about a year and then Sebastian Bell.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I belong to The Incorporated Society of Musicians and the British Flute Society (for which I am the local representative for Kent).

5 years and above. However i do start young people on the plastic fife. No age limit.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
If students wish to take exams I can coach them towards the ABRSM exams or Trinity Guildhall, also diplomas of either boards.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Make sure that you pay attention to your instrument. Play it every day.
A little and often makes amazing progress. The more you play, the better you will get and the more fun you will have.
Be inquisitive, ask questions and try to play some music that you haven't been told to practice. Use the infomation that you have been given to play new music without your teacher as often as you can. This will make you an amazing sight reader and will add to your enjoyment.
Go to flute events, where you will meet new people and have fun with your flute.
