About Chris
I am Chris Sellers, a passionate and dedicated musician with a wealth of experience in various genres of music, including jazz, heavy metal, and electronic music. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Music (Jazz) from Leeds Conservatoire and a Master's in Electronic and Computer Music from the University of Leeds. Throughout my career, I have honed my skills as a professional function musician, performing at weddings, corporate events, and other functions, while also exploring my creative side in original music projects spanning a diversity of genres such as: Slow Loris, Pravitas, After the Abduction, and Lost Noris. I am also the vocalist in the world's only Meshuggah tribute band “Milk and 2 Shuggahs”. I am drawn to teaching because I believe in the transformative power of music and the importance of passing on my knowledge and passion to others. With a deep understanding of music theory, harmony, and composition, as well as extensive experience in instrumental techniques and music technology, I am eager to share my expertise with aspiring musicians. Teaching allows me to inspire others to pursue their musical dreams, contribute to the growth and development of future musicians, and instil a love for music in my students. My goal is to help them discover their unique musical voice and guide them on their own musical journey.

I have over a decade of teaching experience, during which I've had the privilege of working with students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels. My teaching journey began during my time at Leeds Conservatoire. Since then, I've worked as a private music tutor, offering personalised lessons in bass guitar and double bass to students of all ages and abilities. My approach is student-centred, focusing on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel empowered to explore and develop their musical abilities. I'm dedicated to helping each student reach their full potential, whether they're just starting their musical journey or looking to refine their skills. Because of my background in performing across diverse musical genres, I am open to teaching students whatever kind of music they love most. Whether that is Jazz, Heavy Metal, Funk, Pop, or Rock music, I feel that all music has merit. Any genre of music can be used as a vehicle towards learning more about the practice as a whole. I generally teach students music theory through the songs that they like and are most interested in. This is because understanding music theory is all about pattern recognition. I personally find that students learn to see and recognise the patterns in the things they are most interested in. This approach, combined with instrument-specific warm-up exercises, listening exercises, and learning pieces of music that push the technical skill of the student, will help any aspiring musician to get to the level they desire.
