Hi, I am Zoe. I have just finished my 2nd year studying Chemical Engineering at the University of Aberdeen (averaging on a First) offering to teach GCSE/ Secondary/Primary level Maths.
I always find it really fulfilling when my teaching is effective, so I aimed to provide the best level of teaching by being flexible to the way my tutee learns. For example, if someone gains more understanding via diagrams, I will adapt to this and be able to explain through visual representations.
I am very flexible in July and August.
I have experience at tutoring at Kumon in Bramhall for 2 years focusing on Maths but also teaching English. Here I helped children get ahead of their school curriculum by securing a strong foundation to build on. I learned how to problem solve quickly and diversified my methods of teaching as I was exposed to a wide age range of children to teach all on different levels.
Alongside this experience, I do weekly science based workshops at local primary schools in Aberdeen with Robogals- a student-run organisation which aims to inspire young girls to take STEM (Science ,Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subjects. An example of a workshop is "Balloon Rocket Challenge" where we investigate the effects of air resistance and friction.

During my free time in the past summer, I created a workshop to introduce
young children to Python at TechFest 2016 - a festival to celebrate Science and
Technology. This allowed us to promote ourselves in the local community.
In our first year of launching, we conducted 24 workshops, visited local schools
and taught 230 girls which surpassed our targets for the year (Initial goals: 15
workshops, visit 4 schools and teach 200 girls). With this achievement, Robogals

Kumon: Maths and English Study Centre - Teaching Assistant-
My main role was to help children who wanted to pursue extracurricular
experience in Maths and English to get ahead of school curriculum. I gained a lot of
self confidence in my abilities teaching basic concepts of Maths and English.
Additional Work Experience

Tesco - Checkouts
I worked as part of the Checkouts Team during where I gained valuable experience
working for a multinational target driven company. The skills I learned during my
time at Tesco included money handling, one to one customer interaction and
working under pressure.
Produced a timeline for Robogals-Aberdeen for the year making our targets clear --
and delegated tasks accordingly to the rest of the committee.
Guided less experienced and new workers at Tesco whilst offering support where necessary. Teamwork was vital during extremely busy periods such as Christmas.
Currently working in a collaborative team with the Computer Science Society -
which involves building a robot using an Arduino Uno to enhance coding -
workshops for Robogals.
Successfully pitched numerous presentations about Robogals to potential sponsors, in order to gain support for the organisation.
Taught children through the Kumon program in order for them to gain confidence
in their abilities and also get ahead of their school curriculum.
TechFest Event was our first large scale audience experience, a lot of aspects were
to us and led to unforeseeable problems. I was responsible for assessing and
correcting the problems. For example, fixing integral hardware such as the
Changed the structure of our workshops after receiving feedback from teachers
to suit both teaching and volunteering needs. Initially we had a poor volunteering attendance which in turn taught me how to be more flexible with our time to increase interest.
I successfully organise my time to meet assessment deadlines whilst planning and
setting up Robogals, participating in the Chemical Engineering Society and
maintaining my high standard of results.
Organised and planned events for the Chemical Engineering Society as the Social
Secretary including a social event where 50 students attended.

-Interests and Hobbies-
Chemical Engineering: Reader of TCE (The Chemical Engineer) Magazine and member of IChemE: Aberdeen and Social Secretary for the Chemical Engineering Society.
Music: Currently working towards my piano Grade 8 exam.
I have worked closely alongside Zoe, developing workshops for TechFest Aberdeen, and witnessing first hand her patience and clarity in explaining ideas to a wide age range of children. Her passion for promoting STEM to children, particularly girls, through Robogals (of which she co-founded the Aberdeen chapter) is inspirational, and the professionalism with which I have seen her conduct the organisational and business aspects of the society is commendable.
Throughout our sixth form and university level education, Zoe has always been available and willing to help me with maths, and her aptitude for clarifying higher level concepts to myself speaks volumes for her ability to tutor GCSE and below maths. I have every confidence in Zoe as a tutor.
