About Hala
Starting my teaching career right after graduation in 1999, I have 19 years of experience in teaching the Arabic language for children and adults.
19 years of experience in teaching Quran to children, adults, newly-converted Muslims and those who are interested in getting acquainted with Islam and Quran.
19 years of experience in teaching English to non-English speakers.
I teach Arabic to children, newly-converted Muslims, non-Arabic speaking Muslims and all those who would like to get acquainted with the Arabic language, the Quran or Islam.
I teach Muslim students how to pray, how to read Ahsanul Qawaid, how to read Kalimas – all with Tajweed rules. Vocalisation and Tajweed rules are integal part of my teaching strategy. I teach students how to do Umrah and Hajj in Arabic.
I also teach the Arabic language to those who are travelling to the Arab World, for business or pleasure.
I have an established record of working with the Arabic language as I am Albawtaka Review editor & translator. I have translated hundred and twenty-three stories from English into Arabic, including stories by Nobel laureates Doris Lessing, Nadine Gordimer and Alice Munro, winners of Man Booker Prize, Pulitzer Prize, National Book Award, PEN/Faulkner Award, Kiriyama Pacific Rim Book Award, BBC short story award, Caine Prize for African Writing, National Canadian Magazine Award, National Book Critics Circle Award and Flannery O'Connor Award for short fiction, among other honors.

I aim to provide a solid ground of the Arabic language while paying close attention to the needs of students as individuals. Learning should be fun and engaging, not a sort of punishment or a burden. I tend to repeat a lot and my classes are fast-paced and engaging. I spend the first five minutes of each class revising what was discussed in the previous classes.
When teaching Quran, I don't impose my religious views on students and I work closely with parents to create a plan of action on what to introduce to children at every age and level. I only educate students on what Quran linguistically says and I leave Quran's spiritual interpretation to their judgements or their parents' judgements.
I accept children from the age of 3. Teaching children a systematic syllabus can be quite challenging, but an imperative must. I have a number of methods to approach them, including poems, stories and songs. Weekly reports of children's progress will be made to parents and parents will be included in every single decision of their kids' tuition.
I use a number of essential books to teach, all depending on students' levels, ages and preferences. I sometimes mix chapters and books to deliver effective results and tailor classes to students' needs. I also benefit from a number of visual and acoustic mediums to deliver my message.
I offer tuition at a library near my house for male students who prefer face-to-face tuition. Please check the fees in the fees section :-)
