About Katie
Hey! I'm Katie, also known as Maracuya.
I've been DJing for 8 years.
I've played gigs around the world, including a headline set at the Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg, and gigs in New York City, Panama and Colombia.
I'm part of a female and non-binary collective called Not Bad for a Girl. We put on events in Manchester and London, run a record label called EQUAL PARTS, and aim to combat gender discrimination in the music industry. We've had our label's music played on Radio 1, played at festivals including BBC 6Music Festival, Boomtown and All Points East, and in venues such as The Warehouse Project and the Ministry of Sound. We've also ran nationwide campaigns with Converse and Red Bull.
Through Not Bad for a Girl, I have extensive experience running open deck nights and DJ workshops at venues like Band on the Wall and London Sound Academy.
I am autistic and have ADHD, and I am an advocate for disability rights. I have taken part in disability research for AlphaTheta (previously known as Pioneer DJ), and I am trained on the accessibility features of their equipment. I have also have experience with facilitating workshops for neurodivergent people.
I have loads of radio experience - I've had residencies on SWU.FM, Subtle and Reform Radio. I currently have a monthly residency on STEAM Radio, and I also co-founded my own station, called Rainy City Radio.
The music I play depends on the event and/or venue. When I play in clubs, particularly in the early hours, I love to play bass music, such as UK bass and jungle. If I'm playing at a bar, I'll usually go for house and global rhythms.
I'm super passionate about sharing my knowledge and inspiring the next generation of DJs.

Location:
My lessons are in-person, and take place at my home in Old Trafford (easily accessible by bus or tram, and street parking is available). I teach all experience levels and ages - I hold an enhanced DBS.
Length:
You can choose the length of your lessons, but I recommend 1.5 to 2 hours.
Equipment:
I teach on digital equipment - 2x Pioneer XDJ-1000MK2 and a Pioneer DJM-750MK2 mixer. This equipment is regularly used at clubs and festivals. If you are a beginner, you also have the option to begin learning on a smaller controller, the Pioneer DDJ-400, and later progress to the XDJs.
I also provide headphones, music to practise with, and a laptop to run Rekordbox software.

Queer and female friendly - It can be difficult to find a DJ tutor who isn't male. I will provide a safe and supportive environment, no matter your gender.
