About Peter

- What kind of experience do you have?

Teaching Experience

I have approximately six years of teaching experience, beginning in 2008 when I became a self-employed drum tutor for a year. In 2009 I attended Anglia Ruskin University (Cambridge) and continued to gain teaching experience and knowledge of music education. In 2012 and 2013 I was employed by Anglia Ruskin as an 'Hourly Paid Lecturer' to lead a 'rhythm ensemble', consisting mainly of first and second year students. I am now based in London, currently teaching privately as well as holding the position of 'Drum Instructor' to the 4F Air Training Corps. to instruct the squadron in the military style of snare drum performance. I am also a supply teacher for 'Ignito Project', an organisation aiming to provide affordable music lessons to schools. I have experience of teaching age five to adult.

Musical Experience

Classical: I have played with large orchestras and chamber ensembles and have performed pieces by composers such as Rachmaninoff, Elgar and Tchaikovsky alongside 20th century works by composers such as Antheil, Berio and Xenakis. I have also been successfully commissioned for solo percussion work, most recently I played 'Rebonds A and B' by Xenakis at West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge. I also have experience of interdisciplinary projects where performance is not only limited to music.
Jazz / Pop: I began as the main drummer in 'The Cedars Jazz Band' (unfortunately now inactive) which was a jazz big band. Since then I went on to form and participate in a multitude of smaller ensembles from trios and quartets to larger. This has given me a thorough grounding in the standard repertoire and stylistic traits from trad-jazz through to contemporary experimental artists. Alongside this I have always been involved in pop bands - since the age of thirteen - and have played at a huge amount of venues over the years. I'm knowledgeable about a wide range of styles including, Rock, Metal, Funk, Folk, Latin, Jazz, Pop, Dance, Drum'n'Bass etc. I have also been playing in concert bands and musical productions since the age of fifteen.
Songwriting / Composition: I have been actively composing for ten years, mainly in the classical and pop music genres. This culminated in my compositional dissertation project at university, for which I was awarded 70% (first class). I am also a main songwriter for my recent 'Echo Trails' project.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes, I have a recent DBS check. Several in fact! I'm also cleared to work in low level MOD facilities, so I'm about as scrutinised as it's possible to be.

- Where and with whom did you train?

Most recently at Anglia Ruskin University:

Drums with Nic France (Session drummer)

Composition, theory and performance with Kevin Flanagan (Saxophonist, Composer, Lecturer in Music)

Theory, performance and teaching practises with Alan Rochford (Singer, Conductor, Lecturer in Music)

World Music and performance with Jon Banks (Multi-instrumentalist, Lecturer in Music)

Performance, theory and academic writing with Paul Jackson (Pianist, Conductor, Head of Music)

Performance and electronic music with Paul Rhys (Composer, Conductor, Lecturer in Music)

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

Live session Player for 'Magpie Dance'

Drum Instructor to '4F Air Training Corps.'

Drummer and composer for 'Echo Trails'. The two links in my media section are recent music videos from 'Echo Trails', a band that I am currently involved with.
