During the initial phases of tuition, the tutee will be able to tell me which areas of his or her subject they are confident in, and which areas they feel they could use more work on. Based on this, I will be able to plan sessions over a given time frame so that the weaker areas are focused on more until the tutee is able to answer any question confidently. This will be done through a series of practice questions, essays and homework. These learning methods will vary in application depending on the subject. Lessons will be delivered in a friendly and comforting environment, using skills I have gained previously working as a sports teacher in primary schools, so that the tutee will feel comfortable to ask me questions and progress their understanding, while also enjoying each session. I am able to travel short distances around London in order to provide home sessions or sessions in locations that the tutee is comfortable with. If required, I can meet with the tutee before tutoring begins in order for them to gain an understanding of me and who I am.
Obtained a bachelors degree in Geology from the University of Southampton in 2018, before completing a masters degree in Management of Natural Resources at University College London (UCL) earlier this year. Offered the opportunity of completing a 5 month industry-lead research project in Adelaide, Australia, examining the chemistry and formation processes of metal deposits within the historic Kapunda Copper Mine. Approved for a PhD project at UCL to study the geochemistry of minerals surrounding iron-oxide-copper-gold deposits in South Australia, beginning February 2020. Key experience resides within Geology, Chemistry and Geography.
Obtained numerous hours of experience in teaching and coaching, most notable within a role as badminton coach for the Special Olympics Plymouth and District division; an organisation that delivers sporting opportunities to people with learning disabilities. Developed clear communication skills and the ability to break-down complex information during this time, alongside prior P.E. teaching experience within primary schools around Southampton.
Rates do not vary depending on the age of the student. I am able to travel into Plymouth to do lessons at the tutees home or preferred place of study, though a surcharge of £5 will be applied for travel costs. A minimum lesson time of 2 hours will also apply in this instance.
