About Tyler

With a PhD in Music Education and a specialization in violin, my career has been dedicated to both performing and teaching music at the highest level. As a classical and jazz violinist/violist, I have honed my skills and deepened my understanding of music, allowing me to bring a rich and diverse perspective to my teaching. My 15 years of experience have equipped me with the tools to provide high-quality, personalized instruction to students of all levels.

My approach to teaching is deeply individualized, focusing on the unique needs and goals of each student. Whether you are a beginner just starting your musical journey or an advanced player seeking to refine your technique and explore improvisation, I tailor my lessons to help you achieve your aspirations. I believe that every student has the potential to excel and that with the right guidance and support, they can unlock their full musical potential.

In my lessons, I emphasize a balance between technical proficiency and creative expression. My classical training ensures that students develop a strong foundation in technique and musical theory, while my experience in jazz encourages them to experiment and find their own voice. This blend of disciplines not only enhances their technical skills but also fosters a deeper appreciation and enjoyment of music.

Ultimately, my goal is to create a supportive and inspiring learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore, experiment, and grow. I am passionate about helping each student discover their own musical path and achieve their personal best, whether it’s mastering a challenging piece, developing improvisational skills, or simply finding joy in playing music. Through tailored instruction and dedicated mentorship, I strive to make every lesson a meaningful and enriching experience.

Whether you’re just starting out or seeking to enhance your technique and improvisation skills, each lesson is customized to meet your unique needs and musical aspirations.

In our sessions, you will engage in a variety of exercises designed to build a solid foundation in technique and theory. For classical students, we delve into the works of renowned composers, focusing on developing proper posture, bowing techniques, and expressive performance. Jazz enthusiasts will explore improvisation, learning about chord progressions, scales, and the intricacies of jazz rhythm. Both approaches emphasize a deep understanding of musicality and technique, ensuring well-rounded development.

I aim to create a supportive and motivating environment where you feel comfortable to explore and expand your skills. Each lesson integrates a balance of technical exercises, musical repertoire, and improvisation, tailored to your personal interests and goals. This method ensures that you not only improve your playing but also enjoy the process of learning and discovering new aspects of the violin.

Regular feedback and goal setting are integral to our lessons, helping you track your progress and stay focused on your objectives. My commitment is to provide a nurturing space where you can confidently tackle challenges and celebrate achievements.
