About Tianyu
I am a pianist holding the ATCL Diploma with Distinction (93/100) and have studied piano under Bo Lyu, Piano Professor at the Royal Academy of Music. I have performed as a soloist at West Road Concert Hall, including Moszkowski’s Piano Concerto.
Beyond piano, I am also an experienced violist, having performed and toured in Italy, Germany and the UK. As a composer, I have written music for school productions including Dreams of Anne Frank and The Tempest.
Having worked with musicians of all ages, from music directors and conductors to student performers, I believe that trust is at the heart of good music-making. For me, teaching is a two-way process. I guide students in understanding the music while giving them the confidence and freedom to develop their own interpretation.

I offer face-to-face piano lessons from my home, right next to Clapham Junction, from complete beginner to Grade 8 and beyond.
What I offer
• ABRSM preparation, with approximately 90% of my students achieving Distinction
• Beginner to Grade 8+, including technique, sight reading, aural skills and musicianship
• Pop, anime and other songs students enjoy, adapted to their level
• Experience teaching children, teenagers and adults
• Individual lessons or lessons for up to two students
• Music scholarship and audition preparation, including repertoire selection and performance
• Two pianos available for paired lessons
I believe students learn best when they are genuinely interested in what they play. I therefore incorporate music that students already enjoy while building strong technical and musical foundations.
I was a music scholarship holder for seven years, giving me first-hand experience of the preparation and expectations involved in music scholarship applications.
