About James
I am an aerospace engineer but have played piano for ~17 years. I have a beautiful U3 Yamaha piano at home which is ideal for students at any level. I have experience teaching children as young as 6, as well as teaching in school environments with students ranging from 12-18. I have also taught adult beginners in the past developing courses tailored specifically to the individual's needs.

Despite training as an aerospace engineer I have been a pianist my whole life. I enjoy teaching beginners as there are so many tips and tricks I have picked up during my piano experience that I enjoy passing on to new students to fast track their progress. I like to focus on what the student wants to learn, this may be the traditional classical training or might be learning about chord theory and improvisation. If you’re looking to explore the piano to find out what you like and what you don’t like, you’ve come to the right place. During my music training I was often deterred as a kid due to strict teachers and rigid practice regimes. I do things completely differently and teach through fun exploration making each lesson student focused. This is key to developing a big picture of music and not fall down a rabbit hole of only relying on sight reading and classical theory - there's so much more!
