First, I will ask you to run around the court twice to warm up and to run short distances to practice your footwork (a super-key thing in tennis!). Then I will want to see your baseline shots and hear from you. Second, we will organise drills around your weaker shot; say it's the forehand: I will give you 10 forehands cross-court and 10 down the line and ask you to strike the ball beyond service line. Third, we will play ten balls trying to get to as many shots as possible, minimum 50 (25 each). Fourth, I will ask you to serve slowly with the right movement above the net and within the service box, say 5 times on each side. Finally, we will play some points with no restrictions.
I am an environmental scientist with a great deal of teaching experience (mostly in Geography and Sciences). I have a strong passion for tennis and I would love sharing that and my experience in useful and fun lessons with beginners or intermediate-level players who want to improve their shots. My best shot is the single-handed backhand (both slice and drive / top-spin, and volleys too). I took a number of tennis classes and have given a few to friends. I am open to your needs, but have drills prepared that we can try out, targeted to consistency, which goes a long way in this sports: you have more fun in (slightly) longer rallies than if you miss a shot too soon.
Tennis is my absolute favourite hobby and I want to help tennis players make the most of their game and enjoy it more and more. I played for 30 years and I want to work as a part-time tennis coach. I am happy to help anyone become more consistent from the baseline, improve their volleys or serve, or just start. You will learn tips from the pros, if you are into following professional tennis too!
