About Pat
I have been teaching English for 17 years. Initially, I was a tutor in the United States, where I had been an art teacher, fine artist, illustrator and arts administrator for a lot of my adult life. I came to Istanbul, Turkey in 2011 and taught in a school for 9 years. Covid-19 changed my life as the hybrid/remote work culture took hold. I have been an exclusively online tutor for the last 5 years, have met people from all over the world, and consider myself a student of geography, sociology and anthropology. My students are my teachers now. I love my job. Many of my former and current students are living abroad, in English speaking countries for work or education. I am so proud of all of them.

I spend 30 minutes or 1 hour talking about subjects that are important to my students. Subjects like: personal interests, family, work, philosophy and ideas about culture and society. I focus on working with young adults and adults. Many of my students are university students, others are professionals, folks who manage a home and retired people. My method is mostly concerned with minimizing stress using encouragement, compassion and humor.
