About Rory
I have lived on a houseboat and worked as a professional skipper for several years now within London.
I’ve handled many varieties of boats to date, but I mostly specialise in Narrowboats and Widebeam vessels.
I hold a valid boatmaster’s licence, a helmsman ticket and train new professional skippers as well.
Previously I have worked for and engaged with The London Waterbus Company, Hidden Depth’s Canal Cruises, Go Boat, The Electric Barge and Pirate Castle.
I have plenty of patience and understand everyone learns at different rates, so
I will always adapt to your needs and approach.
I am also an LGBTQ+ friendly instructor.

My name is Rory, I’ve been a professional boatmaster for many years on London’s Regents Canal, The Grand Union Canal and The River Lea.
I can teach you how to handle your boat safely and with confidence. I’ll also cover:
-Lock operations
-Canal Etiquette
-Basic Engine checks
-How to handle emergencies
I can teach you aboard one of my vessels or aboard your vessel should it be suitable.
Lessons are London Based. If aboard my vessels, it will be Little Venice. If on yours it must be within the M25.
