About Julian
My name is Julian Nichols (he/him) and I have taught classes for 18+ people of all levels. My credits include teaching classes for various companies, prestigous schools and conservatories. I believe in the power of constructive criticism & positivity within a teaching space.

Julian Nichols is a native of Toronto, Ontario. With an interest for ballet and contemporary, Julian attended the regional arts program at Cawthra Park Secondary school for Dance. During this time, he was also a company member at the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre.
In 2017, Julian graduated Cum Laude with a B.F.A from the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College, SUNY in New York. He also studied abroad at Taipei National University of the Arts in Taipei, Taiwan, working with international artists. In his senior year, Julian performed a repertory solo, PacoPepePluto by Alejandro Cerrudo, which was selected for the conservatory's spring concert in 2017.
Julian has performed works by internationally recognized choreographers including Aszure Barton, Tom Weinberger, Jose Limón, Brian Brooks, Kyle Abraham, Darryl Tracy, Allen Kaeja, Rosalind Newman, Emily Molnar, Alexander Whitley, Carol Anderson, Fanny Ghoreyab, Hanna Kiel, Maxine Doyle, and Roy Assaf.
Julian has been a company member with Nimbus Dance Works, a guest artist with The Limón company, and has danced for Hanna Kiel's Human Body Expression. He has also trained at Springboard Danse Montreal, The School at Jacob’s Pillow, Momentum Montreal, and the Movement Invention Project.
Julian's choreography was chosen for the American Dance Guild Festival in New York City. Figment of the Imagination was performed before hundreds of people at Alvin Ailey's Citigroup Theater. Since then, he has created work and taught at Gibney Dance Center in New York City, Conteur Dance Academy, Canadian Contemporary Dance Theater, Cawthra Park Secondary School, and the School of Nimbus.
Now residing in London, UK Julian is interested in making an impact on the performing arts community by providing opportunities for artists of all mediums while focusing on his choreographic journey.

My teaching method varies depending on the level and age of my student(s). For a beginner/intermediate class, I will focus on the basics of movement and body alignment so the students can gain more of a sense of body awareness. This is of utmost importance in order to progress in an efficient way that is beneficial for the student(s). In an advanced/professional class, my teaching methods differ in that we still work on body awareness through body alignment, however, movement vocabulary will become increasingly more challenging while also putting this to the test through combinations and phrase work.
