Music is meant to be played, listened to and enjoyed. As such, everything I teach is geared towards understanding how it can be applied in a practical context. What is the point in studying music endlessly if it is only for the sake of study?
I also appreciate that everyone has unique tastes. Because of this, I always gear my teaching to be based around the music that you personally enjoy. All forms of music have content that can be studied, analyzed and applied to a broader context so we will work together to find subject matter that you are interested in and then use that as the topic matter for the majority of our work - all the time with the intention of learning to use our new-found knowledge and skills in a practical sense.
Having graduated from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with an Honours degree in Jazz performance, I have built a successful career as a working musician. Alongside performance and improvisation, my specialities cover composition, arrangement and theory - predominantly in a Jazz idiom but these topics are widely applicable to all forms of music and I have a long background in Classical Music to a high standard preceding my more contemporary music focus.
