I have taught privately for two years teaching budding vocalists of all ages. I have helped prepare students for exams as well as encouraged students back into singing after years out of practice. I like to take a creative approach with students, to engage with them about short and long term goals as well as encouraging them to keep practice diaries to document their progress and for self evaluation.
I am very passionate about teaching as I believe it is one of the most rewarding activities - watching someone grow as they learn not only the basics of technique but when they start to develop their own sound. I believe I am an inspiring teacher and firm but fair when it comes to homework and discipline. I provide support to the students and have received feedback showing I am encouraging and helpful after each and every lesson - “ 5/5, Fantastic lessons - Rowan is great at giving feedback and at helping me set, review and achieve my personal goals. I always come away believing I have improved my knowledge and feeling inspired.” Jasmine Gorsuch, previous student.
I have extensive training in music, singing and composition. I have attended The Brit School, gaining Triple Distinction* as well as Trinity Laban Conservatoire, where I graduated last year with a first.
For five months of my degree I was awarded an Erasmus scholarship to study Norwegian folk music at The Grieg Academy, Norway. This trip helped to sculpt my music and my current projects take a lot of influence from folk as well as free jazz and free improvisation.
I am a confident vocalist who has the ability to sing a range of genres including pop, jazz, soul and folk. My main study for the last four years has been in jazz and folk although my compositions are influenced by a wide array of music.
Over the last couple of years I have performed in many settings in the UK, Norway and China and have invaluable experience gigging with various ensembles. I can help students with how to lead a band confidently once they are at that level. I am also proficient in teaching composition and music theory as well as some more advanced jazz theory and harmony. I also have knowledge in music business and event planning as well as how to market yourself as an artist.

South London vocalist, Rowan Flack, has been crafting her haunting,
sensitive style since her first forays in to writing folk inspired songs at the
age of thirteen.
Enveloped by the urban explosion of talent as a student at Croydon’s Brit
School, she found her own voice listening to the likes of Etta James,
Astrud Gilberto and Esperanza Spalding. After discovering Keith Jarrett
and Jan Garbarek she delved in to the depths of jazz and was awarded a
place on the jazz course at Trinity Laban Conservatoire.
Her EP ‘New Light Dwelling’ was created with five Norwegian players in
Bergen during Rowan’s exchange in 2018. It is based on three albums
‘Belonging’ and ‘My Song’ Jarrett and ‘Folk Songs’ - Garbarek. After
absorbing Jon Hendricks’ vocalese on ‘Four’, Rowan was inspired to
write her own poetic vocalese for Jarrett’s ‘My song’. Arriving in Norway
she the set about transcribing, arranging, composing lyrics and
collaborating with grounding support from her band, the students at The

Rowan was a fellow student of mine at the Griegacademy in Bergen, Norway. Even tough she only spend half a year in Norway, she seemed very eager to be part of the community and enrich it with her own voice as a composer and musician. I witnessed how she showcased her different skills as transcriber, composer, singing on a high technical level and as a bandleader. If you looking for someone that can give you advices in the different aspects of being a musician, creating your own band and music or just becoming a better singer or instrumentalist I can definitely recommend Rowan!
I’ve known Rowan for years and she’s a great singer and performer who has worked so hard to perfect her craft! Couldn’t recommend her more.
