About Elliot
I am a graduate in Piano (Jazz) from the Royal Welsh College of music and drama, and studied for a postgraduate degree in Composition at the same institution. I learned the Organ under Dr. Richard Godfrey, the Melodeon under Andy Cutting, studied harmony under Peter Oakes, and was a student of the Bebop master Barry Harris, as well as the Welsh master Huw Warren.
I have experience playing a great many improvised music disciplines, from traditional Swing, and Stride Piano, to vanguard-pushing anarchic free music. I am a trained Organist in the Anglican tradition, and have familiarity with the variety of Traditional music encompassed therein.
I am also a singer of the traditional music of Southwest England, and an amateur folklorist.

I am able to teach in varied creative fields, including Music Theory, Composition and aesthetics, the Piano (esp. Jazz), and Accordion (diatonic and piano). I also sing traditional music, and can teach in that discipline.
My primary goal in teaching is to cultivate each individual student's voice and artistic impulse, and to both refine it myself and also to give them the tools they may use to distill it further themselves. I have a strong belief in the arts as Alchemical and methodical pursuits as well as purely impulse driven and sub-conscious.
In Music, I am a strong advocate for the accretion of contextual fluency and for the cultivation of an exceptionally firm foundational technique and an historical literacy that allows a practitioner to be well-grounded in their art. I teach improvisation, composition, form, and theory, and am always glad to hear a voice I have not heard before.
I am also able to teach students from the ground up, and have a number of methods suited to doing so for different learners.
Typical lessons are from 30 minutes to an hour, as desired (though I think less than 30 minutes is of little practical use).
