About Ivan
- What kind of experience do you have? I have been a professional and dedicated musician for over 24 years in a military band. Confident principal trumpet player accustomed to working in high pressure environment both in the UK and abroad. I have on numerous occasions played for royalty at Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and the Albert Hall alongside the London Symphonic Orchestra. High profile performances on the BBC, Prince Charles' 60th birthday and tutored musicians at the Queen Mother's funeral. These are just a few of my professional experiences whilst serving as a military musician. Trusted team leader, experienced in motivating and developing junior members within the Corps of Army Music. Well respected instrumental mentor, skilled in teaching beginners and professional musicians up to diploma standard. Since I have retired from the Military life I now teach at Rye St Antony School in Headington and I am also the Brass tutor for Brookes University. I also have over 30 pupils a week in and around the Oxford area. I am very experienced with the ABRSM and Trinity exam boards, practical and theory, aural, music technology, GCSE music syllabus. As a teacher I prepare and teach pupils towards these exams. I run brass quintets and brass groups allowing my pupils to experience ensemble playing and to meet like-minded people - Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate? I am currently teaching at Rye St Antony School and have an up-to-date DBS check - Tell me about some of your current students. I have over 30 private Brass and piano students per week who I teach either in my music room (Headington) or travel to in and around Oxford. I am also the brass tutor for students at Brookes University and Rye St. Antony School Headington and Carfax Tutorials Oxford. Review 2024 Ivan is an inspirational grass-roots music teacher who, day-in and day-out, works hard to further the musical ambitions of so many people in Oxfordshire, of all ages. Ivan has taken an older guy like me, with no previous musical ability, from scratch up to grade 7. And onwards! That's some achievement. He has made me believe that anything is possible, and that I can be a trumpet player. He has introduced me to a vast range of teaching material, and has perfected a teaching regime that encompasses all the fundamentals of the instrument. Ivan was principle trumpet player, teacher and mentor to me whilst I served in the army band. I had confidence issues due to past experiences but Ivan helped boost my belief in my own abilities.
