I believe that the arts are for everyone, that we can expand our horizons through art-making. Every session I run tries to connect a wider art historical context to what we're planning to make; or we explore a particular style or technique. For example, a session on building sculptures to photograph took in references to Dutch Golden Age painting, totem poles, and the Japanese art of flower arranging. Don't be scared if that sounds like a lot! My students and participants consistently report that my sessions are fun and surprising.
I am a professional photographer with a decade's worth of experience capturing performance and portraits. For the past eight years I've also been leading workshops in schools and major cultural institutions, primarily based around photography but with elements of other artforms as well. My personal art practice incorporates collage, performance and book-making.
Lessons must be cancelled more than 48 hours in advance unless exceptional circumstances intervene.
Following roles as an in-house marketing and PR officer and as a personal PA to a high net worth individual, I returned to college to study photography and have since been combining work as a professional photographer specialising in arts documentation and portraiture with roles as a workshop leader and facilitator. I also occasionally work as a receptionist, providing cover as needed for a West End publishing company and others.
2010 – present: photographer
Photographic clients: leading cultural institutions including Southbank Centre, the Royal Institution, Shakespeare’s Globe; corporate clients, families, and schools; photographs have been used widely in print and online media and promotional materials.
I regularly collaborate with other artists on projects and am continuously developing my personal practice. In 2018 I was selected for the Printing Matter residency at the Skaftfell Center for Visual Art, in East Iceland, and was due to visit the Kypseli Print Studio in Athens to investigate a new project before the European lockdown prevented international travel. I have performed and shown work at The Icing Room and the Poetry Society Cafe.
February 2012 - present: creative arts workshop facilitation and leadership
The most recent project I worked on was Demonstrate!, a cross-arts intensive 10 day workshop, for children with profound and complex emotional, educational and physical needs.
I participated in Bow Arts’ Artist Educator Training Scheme September 2017 - April 2018; now work regularly for them in school settings, often managing a class of 30+ children.
I am a regular collaborator with Museum of London on both their families’ and schools’ programmes as well as working with them to document events photographically.
I’ve delivered photography workshops as part of the Barbican Centre’s extended programme of private views for community groups.
Last year, my workshop practice expanded into the research and creation of learning materials for ESOL students visiting the Tower of London and Hampton Palace, commissioned by Historic Royal Palaces.
