About Mary-Jannet
I have been a professional recorder player for over a decade since graduating with Distinction from the Royal College of Music in 2013. I perform widely with my own chamber ensemble, Ensemble Hesperi, and also enjoy researching music in eighteenth-century Britain, which I have taught at University of York, and Lawrence University London Centre.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching, and strongly believe that musical learning, whether or not for exam preparation, should be first and foremost fun and engaging. I take great joy in finding different ways to help my students reach their musical goals and improve their skills, and I always convey my own enthusiasm for the recorder and its music in every lesson.
For younger students, lessons of half an hour or 45 minutes may be most appropriate, and for advanced students 1 hour, or indeed an hour and a half at post Grade 8 level.
I have taught a number of recorder students from beginner to Diploma level (both children and adults) over the years. I very much value seeing students through on their musical journeys: a student whom I started teaching at the age of 5 in 2012 has recently passed her LRSM diploma with Distinction before she heads to study Music at Oxford University.
