About Liliya

Having worked as a tutor for 10 years with over 25,000 hours of experience, professional tutoring is both my job and a passion. I taught Economics at A-level and IB and Political Sciences at A-level, IB, and university-level Politics. I have a good knowledge of A-level Politics and Economics curriculums (OCR, Edexcel). In these courses, I focus on explaining key concepts and graphs (in Economics) as well as analytical skills. In A-level Politics, I explain how to write the best essays to get A* using Ao1 and Ao2 techniques. I also have good knowledge of IB International Politics requirements. My students received offers from such universities as the LSE, King's College London, and Nottingham University. I also taught general academic writing creating my own curated courses in academic writing, including complex papers like dissertations. Moreover, I taught my students how to create successful personal statements and guided them through the job applications process. Subsequently, my students found jobs in both the public and the private sector, including the government, academia and political consulting. I also posess rich classroom teaching experience as I used to volunteer for a charity called the ReachOut where I gave English and Maths classes as well as teaching in-class at several private educational establishments.

In terms of my teaching methods, I am highly-adaptable to my students' goals, learning styles, psychographic profiles as well their level of academic proficiency. I am very organised and meticulous in my approach. I build on the student’s previous knowledge to fill the gaps in learning as well as bringing their theoretical knowledge 'alive', where my students can apply such knowledge in different contexts within their educational establishments and outside. I draw inspiration from the Socratic method where I employ question-oriented dialogue. This encourages my students and provides a high level of engagement throughout the whole course of my lessons. Furthermore, it provides my students with more opportunities to develop their critical thinking skills and increase their confidence, while maintaining excitement and proactive interest about the subject outside of class as well. Moreover, I use online modern tech tools to preserve a high level of interaction between my students and I, where I constantly deploy such tools as Whiteboard, visual graphs as well as ensuring a wide range of materials from various sources is seleceted for each lesson. This significantly raises the level of understanding and critical response from my students, while their preferred style of learning, whether it's audio-visual, auditory or kinesthetic is preserved. I have experience in teaching SEN students.
