About Joe

I am a Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Graduate with extensive experience as a teacher. I have worked for Dunbar Music School, South Ayrshire Council, North Lanarkshire Council and the Galloway Violin Studio, in addition to being a private tutor for the last 4 years. I take a relaxed and informal approach to teaching, whilst still trying to find the best way for pupils to reach their full potential. I can teach from home, or can travel to a pupil to teach. I'm also PVG certified. In addition to my teaching work, I have performed across the UK with various ensembles including the Scottish Ballet Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra and Scottish Opera. I have also worked with l'Orchestre de Picardie in Amiens, France.

About the lesson

My teaching is influenced by the methods of Shinichi Suzki, Paul Rolland, Ivan Galamian. As a result of this, I am very keen on developing my students musical ear as well as instilling them with a solid sense of technique. I am also an advocate of pupils being trained musically bilingual, having grown up playing both classical Violin and Folk Music. The two are of mutual benefit to one another and often lend themselves to a mix of techniques.
