I teach my students with the goal to improve their technique and musical understanding so they are equipped for whichever direction their music takes them. This includes jazz, pop, soul, classical and folk genres, and I also offer guidance on songwriting and encourage my students to write and improvise music. I focus my teaching on creating a strong core to the vocal tone as well as increasing range, facility, depth and musicality in the voice.
I am happy to prepare students for exams, and two of my current students recently received distinction in both music theory and practical exams (ABRSM, Trinity Rock & Pop syllabuses). Other achievements of my students include entry to prestigious jazz schools and conservatoires.
I am a professional vocalist based in London. I've learned from the very best, with teachers from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I studied classical singing for eight years and sang with choirs including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Chorus and the BBC Proms Youth Choir, before retraining to become a professional jazz musician. With all this experience, I've learned a great deal about the voice in all contexts.
I am a regular performer, with my own music and other artists, and have experience in session work, big bands, function work, classical choral work and conducting.
I have a valid DBS certificate, am a member of both the Musicians' Union and the Association of the Teachers of Singing. I teach in a number of local schools as well as privately from my home in Highgate. Due to the current Covid-19 Situation, I have moved all teaching online.
All lessons, whether online or in person are offered at £35 for an hour. If either party cancels with less than 24 hours' notice, full payment is still owed/ the lesson is due to be made up another time.
In online teaching, where internet connection causes losses to lesson time, this time may be made up only at the teacher's discretion.
