MA Public Policy Student offering lessons in History and Politics in Norwich

Methodology

I am an MA student specialising in Public Policy and Public Management. This covers broad areas of policy change. I did my BA in History and Politics, covering all aspects from Medieval to Landscape History, as well as Social and Political Theory. I prefer to tutor in politics, particularly covering the key ideologies and information relating to the UK political structure.

Underpinning the specificity of each course, there is a common approach to these disciplines. I am keen to assist students, particularly A Level, at understanding how to approach longer essay questions, how to provide balanced arguments, and how to construct effect answers. At A-Level, I received 3 A*s, in Art, History and Politics. Additionally, I am an expert at revision and can assist in developing handy techniques for students entering into the final months of the study.

More generally, I am a friendly and approachable student who has survived university - and can offer techniques and tips for prospective students.

Experience

I am a first-class Honours graduate in History and Politics, currently completing an MA in Public Policy and Public Management. I have extensive research, analytical, and communicative skills, and am adept at presenting core information in a variety of written formats. Additionally, I am able to work to strict and demanding deadlines, whilst consistently achieving effective results.

Jasper 's CV

I am a first-class Honours graduate in History and Politics, currently completing an MA in Public Policy and Public Management. I have extensive research, analytical, and communicative skills, and am adept at presenting core information in a variety of written formats. Additionally, I am able to work to strict and demanding deadlines, whilst consistently achieving effective results.
Skills

I have developed a range of key, transferable skills, that I believe meet the demands of a modern workplace environment. These include:

Communication:

My degree has equipped me with confidence in producing written content, including sector-specific Public Policy Briefs, Corporate Governance Reports, and an extended Parliamentary Report. Indeed, I am adept at tailoring messages for specific publics and audiences, requiring sub-editing and proofreading of digital content, skills key to my voluntary work as Media Officer for a branch of a political party. Additionally, I have worked on a range of presentations, evidencing: my verbal communicative skills, including concise and comprehensive delivery; my willingness for teamwork and tactful approach to ideas; and, having led a number of presentations, my persuasion and negotiation skills.

Effective research skills:

During the course of my degree, I was successfully accepted onto a Public Policy Internship, completing a Parliamentary Policy Report for Clive Lewis MP. Effective coordination with external stakeholders, including key businesses from across the city, was key to the successful completion of the assignment. More so, the high First mark awarded demonstrates my insightful and analytical approach to data collection, drawing on primary qualitative and quantitative data to identify patterns and trends for a meaningful conclusion. Complimenting this, I had to remain up-to-date with secondary literature, requiring effective use of electronic journals and contemporary media sources.

Proficient admin and time management abilities:

Overall, completing my studies to a First Class mark, and progressing onto an MA course, demonstrates my ability to balance strict, overlapping deadlines, and practice effective time management. More specifically, as a UEA Future Leader, I ran a successful trip to Southwold for students in December 2018. Whilst requiring proficiency for timekeeping and management, I am most proud that I organised for several key local government stakeholders to talk to prospective post-graduate students about how national policy affects the town. My degree equally taught me to be perseverant and resilient, as, after lower than expected results in my second year, I approach the relevant academic support services, and increased my marks to achieve a First Class overall. Finally, I am adept at using a host of digital platforms, as well as Office 365 and Apple Pages.
