About Duncan
I'm Duncan — a fractional commercial adviser, executive search professional, and angel investor based in Tunbridge Wells, with a career that's taken me from PwC through Korn Ferry and Arkesden Partners in executive search, and more recently into fractional CRO/CCO roles, board advisory, and angel investing, with a particular focus on Africa-facing businesses and impact organisations.
Over the years, I've sat on both sides of the hiring table more times than I can count — as the candidate being interviewed, and as the person deciding who gets the offer. What's struck me repeatedly is how much of the outcome comes down to preparation and clarity, not just qualifications or experience. I've seen genuinely brilliant candidates talk themselves out of roles simply because no one had ever shown them how interviews actually get judged from the other side.
I want to teach because that knowledge shouldn't be locked away inside search firms and boardrooms. Whether someone's preparing for their first graduate interview or stepping up to a board-level role for the first time, I want to give them the same insight I'd give a client I was placing — honest, specific, and grounded in how these decisions actually get made. It's genuinely rewarding to see someone walk into an interview with real clarity and confidence, rather than guesswork.

I've spent my career on the hiring side of the table — first at PwC, then in executive search with Korn Ferry and Arkesden Partners, where I placed candidates into senior roles across finance, investment, and industry (including my first-ever placement into the funds and secondaries team at CPP Investment Board). More recently, I've worked as a fractional CRO/CCO, board adviser, and angel investor, sitting on the other side of the table reviewing candidates for board and NED positions myself.
That experience means I know exactly what interview panels are actually listening for, where strong candidates typically lose ground without realising it, and how hiring decisions get made behind closed doors — insight most career coaches simply haven't had access to.
My lessons focus on:
