About Elaine

Piano and theory lessons available from qualified and experienced teacher who has been teaching for over 12 years.
I provide a quality learning experience for all pupils. This has been enhanced with my completion of a DipLCM Teaching Diploma where I attended a one year course through Evoco (a Northern Ireland based organisation, providing innovative training for music educators) where I have been challenged and encouraged in my teaching with insight into the latest research in music education.
I am also continuing my professional development in this area, as I am enrolled on a online forum (The Curious Piano Teachers) which provides monthly resources and videos on aspects of piano teaching.
I completed a PGCE in Secondary Music in 2014 which has given me greater experience and skills in my private teaching.

My Story.
I was brought up with music in the house 24/7. My Mum was a piano teacher so every evening after school the house erupted with the sound of exam pieces and beginners tutor books. Of course my Mum had me learning piano from a young age and when it got that I wouldn't practice the dreaded scales for her I went to Judith (Robertson) Anderson where I progressed to pass my grade 7 with merit. When I was 17 I started teaching on a Saturday morning. I continued this through Uni years while I studied for a Music degree at Queens University Belfast. I now teach in Richill School of Music alongside teaching private piano pupils in my home, as well as subbing as a Secondary Music Teacher.

In my teaching I love the individuality of each child and cater to their needs and interests. I make sure that the lessons are fun and enjoyable. I use popular music alongside the exam pieces and use tutors relevant to the child's ability and interests. I use games and give ongoing theory homeworks to aid the material learnt. I have also taught children with special needs. All in all I want music learning to be a enjoyable experience for everyone!
