About Kurangi

Hi, I’m a qualified teacher with experience in both mainstream and special educational needs settings. I’ve taught across Key Stage 2 and in SEND schools, working with a wide range of learners including those with autism, ADHD, and other additional needs. I hold a degree in Psychology, and I’ve completed further training in areas like safeguarding, counselling skills, and challenging behaviour. I’ve always been drawn to teaching because I love helping children and young people discover their potential. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a student gain confidence, especially when something finally clicks after they’ve been struggling. I believe learning should be accessible, engaging, and tailored to each student—and that’s exactly what tutoring allows me to do. I specialise in English, Maths, and study skills, and I’m passionate about making lessons fun and practical. I enjoy finding creative ways to explain tricky concepts—using real-life examples, games, visuals, or step-by-step scaffolding depending on what works best for the student. Outside of teaching, I enjoy cooking, reading, and music. These interests often find their way into my lessons too, helping me connect with students and make learning more enjoyable. If you’re looking for a calm, friendly tutor who will take the time to understand your learning style and help you build confidence, I’d love to work with you!

I take a personalised, student-centred approach to tutoring. I believe that every learner is different, so I adapt my methods to suit individual needs, learning styles, and goals. I aim to build confidence and understanding by breaking complex ideas into manageable steps, using real-life examples and interactive activities wherever possible. I also prioritise creating a supportive, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process.

I use a mix of direct instruction, guided practice, and enquiry-based learning. For younger students, I often incorporate games, visual aids, and hands-on activities to maintain engagement. With older students, I use discussion-based methods, scaffolded problem-solving, and exam-style questions to deepen understanding and develop independent thinking. I regularly assess progress through informal questioning and review tasks, and I adjust my pace and materials based on how well the student is grasping the content.

A typical tutoring session lasts 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the age and focus of the lesson. For younger learners or those with additional needs, I may shorten the session slightly and include more breaks or movement-based activities.

I hold a degree in Psychology from the University of Roehampton and I am a qualified teacher with classroom experience at both mainstream and special educational needs schools. My teaching background has given me strong skills in planning, differentiation, and behaviour support, which I bring to my tutoring sessions.

I tutor children and young people aged 6–16, including those in primary school (Key Stages 1 and 2) and early secondary (Key Stage 3), and I have experience supporting students with SEND. My subjects include English, Maths, and general study skills.
