About Heather
I have a Combined Honours Degree from Glasgow University, UK, in English Literature and History of Art; I have a PGCE (Post-Graduate Certificate of Education) from Sussex University, UK, in Secondary School English Teaching. I first began teaching ESOL in 1981. I was a state school teacher from 1992 - 2009. I taught in Spain in private institutions from 2009 - 2011. I am now semi-retired and I work as a tutor, an online ESOL teacher and exam marker.

I tailor my teaching to the individual's needs, strengths, weaknesses and enthusiasms. I use humour as a means of engaging students. I believe in varying the types of tasks and activities used in lessons. I place emphasis on reinforcing/revising by re-presenting what has been learnt in various ways. I also find that general knowledge, current affairs and leisure pursuits all serve as ways of delivering the many practical nuts and bolts of language learning. Where oral proficiency is concerned, I minimise Teacher Talking Time and maximise Student Talking Time.
